Unhoused and Pregnant

The LA County Department of Public Health reports that each year thousands of women experience homelessness at some point during their pregnancy. As homelessness continues to rise across Los Angeles County, the need for safe, supportive resources for unhoused pregnant women has never been greater.

In response to this growing crisis, Harvest Home expanded in 2022 with the opening of our second location, The Pico Home—boosting our housing capacity from 10 to 27 women at a time. Tripling our capacity, we now have the ability to extend vital care to more women and children than ever before.

Another critical need is housing for families experiencing homelessness, and while a few shelters can accommodate families, pregnant women with children already in their care have unique needs. These mothers need the same physical and mental health care as any other pregnant women, as well as support for her older children. Harvest Home’s family program aims to keep families together by giving mothers a safe place to continue raising their children while preparing to give birth.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to deepening our impact—enhancing support services, strengthening community partnerships, and advocating for long-term solutions that break the cycle of homelessness for pregnant women in Los Angeles.
